The concept on my installation is simple. In the Introduction or beginning of my installation, I was planning to show a video clip on TV screen. In the video, it will show the audience how a TV addicted individual looks likes.
Why the video clip is important in the installations? It is to show to the audience on how to identify an individual who is addicted to TV and show how they behave. In my installation there will be a set of TV, sofa, remote control and a photo frame.
Here its goes, whenever a user sits in on the sofa, the television will took 5 seconds to be broken (technical distortion with sound and some graphic elements).
After 10 seconds passed by, automatically a picture will be taken and the user image whoever sit on the sofa will appear on the hanging photo frame. Why the picture is needed? It is because, still images is just like a story boards that represent a moving still images that’s its inside the TV. With the images they can eventually tell the audience or user about a story of how, where and when a TV addiction begin.
How the users interact with the installation? There will be a remove control placed in front of the sofa, whenever the user touched the remote control, immediately the TV screen will change to a numbers of flying text which carries the message of what people though of TV addiction.

Why people watch TV?
After searching through hundreds of web and reading through articles for days, I finally found some interesting articles by expert to support my though.
According to Donna Michelle with reference to a research of James Lull, people do sometimes prefer audio as background music that it is a good creator of atmosphere. “By rendering a constant and predictable assortment of sounds and pictures which instantly creates a busy atmosphere” said Lull. People who feel lonely may find that sound background may fill up their loneliness.
Television can be used to entertain guests in the house when there is no alternative as well become their conversation topic. Certain viewers feeling guilty when expose to television because viewers find that watching tv is easily available if compare going to cinema.
In the Donna Michelle's article, television is also a form of escapism form our real-life situations and to approach relaxation. This may help certain individual to release frustrations and emotions. “Filling in time” said McQuail.

Concept Design Approach
Ckeckered Concept
I choose checkered as the concept design because of the comfortable texture to set distinctive mood. Moreover the patterns look more inviting and more power. The patterns possess a desire that something truly unique at the forefront of every individual. I found checkered concept is attributes to my installation. In the history of television, color bars were used as test pattern for most video. The color bars have repeated pattern so I link it with checkered patterns.
I got this idea through observation on my classmates who he always wears cloth with checkered patterns and a fake hair. (Khairul Johari)without him I wouldn’t know what’s the meaning of checkered.

Adjust Your Set (2008) from Mark Bell on Vimeo.
Mr.Kok Yong had introduced “Error as Art” installation during Digital Media class. I found it very interesting and it’s a brilliant idea to imply in my digital installation. These video had pretty familiar thing with the error as art. The installation had chosen television to producing reinterpretations of the error as music art. Combination of series error tones of television had captured the beautiful sound and had made new elements to explore in digital world.
UTV from Rob Duarte on Vimeo.
"The UTV installation begins with an open presentation of the technology behind the television broadcast. A laptop computer connects to a display, which shows the real-time workings of the scripts and patches that gather Twitter feeds from people in the Chicago area. A camcorder then converts the image into a ready-for-TV signal and finally leads to a UHF transmitter that broadcasts the content to any television sets in the area. The corkboard above this makeshift TV station contains my notes, sketches and observations about the technical process, comparisons between the sociopolitical histories of Internet and broadcast TV media, and the re-appropriation of the obsolete medium of analog TV for the purposes of broadcasting local community-produced content" said Rob Duarte.

Text carries certain meaning and certain feeling such as humiliation, advice and even hope. Reading text, as when watching television, people increase understanding on what the message try to convey. Looking at the text on television, people know that they are not looking at television but meaning of text carry. Imagine there is a platform for people to expression their feeling on television addiction and the expression appear on the TV surface. Maybe the expression may reach certain individual who addicted to television and some how realize what they are up to.

Yahowa Stackridge - Installation from Media In Motion-Documentations on Vimeo.
Monitors are piled up - tilted and upside down - as an unreguralary heap. The images consist of text fragments, basic graphical elements and technical distortions, edited extremely fast as a pulsating overflow of colours and forms. The music uses feedbacks, low vibrations, high peaks, noise and staccato rhythms.

QuadraTV from Arno Scheper on Vimeo.
QuadraTV is a quadraphonic audiovisual installation.
Televisions are being played on as if it were music instruments.
The basic concept of this is that analogue sound signals are fed to the TV’s,
the TV’s treat the signals as video input, thus converting the sound into light.
The light being emitted from the screen is than picked-up by light sensors and
after losing some information and gaining some noise the signals are converted back into sound, closing the circle.

Topic:
Television Addiction
1.0 Introduction
Addiction is a characteristic of spending large amount of time on a subject and using it more regularly that lead to out of control. It can be know as habit to involve or occupied on subject. Once it stared and can’t stop doing it. Television is a medium for telecommunication on most household, business as well as for education purpose. It is a device shaped like a black box which receives electrical signals of moving images and sound. The word “television” is derived from Greek tele: far and Latin visio; sight. Television addiction is a person who experiences an uncontrollable continues watching for long period of time.
2.0 Background
People spend too much time watching television for some simple reasons, that is either for entertainment or killing free time. It’s relaxing and pleasant distraction from real life and is a great stress reliever or help to forget whatever people face. Watching TV is a difficult habit to break; like a drug. Human brain doesn’t require much thinking or use of imagination on television, if compared to outdoor activities such as football, it require skill and thinking.
What is on my mind is that what kind of things or what kind of installation that can make people realize that they had wasted time in front of television and how to encourage them to do physical activities. Wondering why people should turn to this installation. People do feel lonely at some times, even if they shouldn’t choose television to fill up time. What if, a fast moving digital clock placed beside the black box (TV)? Will people feel time moving faster than they though? What if a digital album placed beside the box (TV), flicking photos, will people feel entertain viewing the photos? Will people be surprise even a broken TV producing beautiful sound of music?
4.0 Aim
The principal aim of this installation is to inform people that there is lots of interesting thing to be explore than wasting time on television.
Objectives
- To experiment the separation of multimedia on television; video, still image, audio, text and animation for preventing the media to focus on one point.
- To investigate which media played the most attraction role in digital world.
- To explore human emotion when come contact with different media.
5.0 Motivation
Curiosity had driven me to explore on this topic. Every little now and then I wonder what make an individual become addictive to something in digital generation. I wonder how much time they had spent and how an individual addicted on something they like. Funny thing is, we know there are a lot of important things waiting for us to be done, yet we wanted to escape by turning to something else.

Time spend on playing games reaches a limit that begin to harm or give effect on our life. The games had replaced relationship, friends and family. The addicted person feel good when comes interact with games, when away from games it will cause moodiness.
Why addicted to games?
Have fun with games can be very challenging. Games give fun to people of all ages. While people doing other thing like working, their mind was thinking about games while they are busy with their own things. They will choose to be at home playing games than out door activities.
People become addictive to games because they are likely to be challenge. They like to showing off their skill and always wanted to be the best at what they are playing. Pollution can affect our health in many ways with both short-term and long-term effects. Different groups of individuals are affected by air pollution in different ways. Some individuals are much more sensitive to pollutants than are others. Young children and elderly people often suffer more from the effects of air pollution. People with health problems such as asthma, heart and lung disease may also suffer more when the air is polluted. The extent to which an individual is harmed by air pollution usually depends on the total exposure to the damaging chemicals, i.e., the duration of exposure and the concentration of the chemicals must be taken into actions.
